It's been awfully quiet lately. I'd hate to see IT die just like that, so I'm encouraging everyone to try to think up plots that we can build off of.

If anyone is going to make friends or enemies with an NPC (is there a different term for those folks on forum games?), I'd like to put the android fellow in that spot instead. We could use some more inter-player relationships.

I just read this over and wow, that's some boring writing. I give myself a 3.5 out of 10 for this post.

Well, my part's done, not much, but I'm surprised I was able to do that much with it given my general lethargy towards writing. Guess we'll have to finish Niel and Syn's little convo that someone was too tired to continue with at some point so the next segment can be edited and posted.

Sorry, Taoist, for the wait on me to type up the RP convo we had... it's been a few weeks now. I'm going to dig through the convo file and see what I can pull out.

Don't have an excuse for it, not going to make one. I'll write it out for you guys, hopefully tomorrow (going to make a note in my schedule) and pull it together into a coherent piece.

Yes, I'm still here. No, IT is not dead. *nod* Sorry for the lengthy wait.

I just finished my midterms yesterday. I know where I want to go with the next two Niel posts - one would be Niel returning to Lish and 'Harlow' and wrapping up business there, and the other returning to Synthia - who has been left on the sidelines long enough (sorry LM). Unfortunately (for the game, anyways) I'm heading out to a friend's cabin for the weekend. No internet is likely. I'll be back Monday, so Monday evening would be the best time to get some RP done. EAC, LM, think you can get to MSN (and possibly Palace) at that time?

Hey, I'm kind of confused. I remember egamad's chracter, The Average Man's first post. I loved it, but is egamad's second post the same character? because I was under the impression that the average man was an android, a Machine, but in the second post he seems to be a psychic?

i'm just kind of confused.

One thing I am wondering is, is anyone else reminded of River Tam from "Firefly" when they read Elishel Lotley?

Dak told me he can see the resemblance.

I'm an hour or so from putting up my post. Just a few edits, a lot of cutting, and then a read over and repeat.

And just a note: Shajn Juron is pronounced Sha-Xin, or Sha-Jin. It's an evolved bastardization of an Asian name. Shajn himself can trace his ancestry back to the Chinese.

Holy crap, we are moving along! Great posts guys. I'm definitely in awe.

I'm working on another Shajn entry. I tossed the last half of my earlier entry into the recycling bin. Hopefully this one will have a bit more happening.

After this one I'll see about updating Specimen 00's progress.

Next entry coming up:

Stop Me If You've Heard This One, But Two Men Walk Into A Bar...

Something else I've been pondering. I've really been wondering about pushing and promoting this site. Not just to gather participants, but also readers, I guess. I'm trying to find a way I can refer people from Ninjai over here but that damned "no links" policy. God, it's so retarded.

I guess we could go around LJ RP communities and blatantly self-promote.

I'm working pretty hard to make up for about a week of school missed due to holidays, so I'm gonna be buried for a bit. My next excerpt's about half-done or so. I'll have to work it over on the weekends though, or at school during breaks, so forgive me if I don't have it by the end of the week. I'll do my best to keep up, especially with the excitement over what me and Taoist are planning.

Expect to hear from me, though, sooner or later. Sooner, I think. We'll see. ;)

EAC: Elisha's given last name is Lotley, by her first post. Keep that; it would make sense that they'd have undergone name changes to hide. Her family Keepers will know her by her old name, as will Niel.

I can always just close membership again and just allow non-members to post, but whatever, right?

All we need now to make this a truly splendiferous occasion is to have someone prod Anthony into actually showing up from time to time and to get someone to drag Polanna away from her innumerable sociology essays. Volunteers, anyone? *readies fishnet*

When all that is said and done though, WE ARE BACK. Nielthunn and Synthia are back, Selric is an excellent addition, Dakese Anthlese made a brief entrance and so we will all go marching into the apocalypse of a future wooooorld! *cheers*

Okay guys, I have a few questions for you.

1) How do people get food? How is it distributed? Does it need to be bought, or is it given away for free? Is it abundant or a scarce and valuable commodity?

2) I asked Tito about money, and he told me that there's a mixture of hard and soft assets. What form does the currency take (coins, bills, plastic sheets)? What's the currency called?

3) If batteries are common fare on the black market, are they used to power things, or just as currency?

Made the post. Unfortunately it's pretty rushed, and doesn't have any upcoming info about Shajn, but I'll work on that tonight. Just needed to get the ball rolling, and it was easier than I thought.

So, Specimen 00, for the moment, is out of the picture. He's been taken out of our reality, and placed in what's basically the seams of it. You know, the parts that Null Mages disintegrate when they use their dusting abilities? He's in that. I would assume Dak put him in there, but we'll see.

I'll see if he can learn some part of human speech before he goes back out.

[music |One is the Loneliest Number - Aimee Mann]

I was super-bored, so I found a nice background image for seeing_sevens. As Tito said, I spruced up Infinity's Twilight as well. I think it does better than the white background we've been going with so far.

I also updated the user info and changed the rules so they are less long-winded and more to the point. Also, less confusing and more up-to-date. That goes for twilightofseven as well. Hopefully everything looks and reads a little better, anyone is free to work about the headers and background colours to make some sort of theme.

Right now I'm working on a new Specimen post, trying to work in a new character. Shajn, formerly Waylander's character. I've basically taken just the name and the fact he's leader of some sort of rebellion. He's a psychotech. I remembering discussing a bit of this with some of you, but let me refresh your memory.

Basically, I remember goten mentioning the term (not sure whether or not he coined it) but a psychotech from what I've gathered and made up, is a human being who has a pyschic rapport with machines. Or devices with any degree of mechanical complexity. Since the idea of a rebellion never really made any sense when the city itself is just one giant surveilance camera, someone who is able to blackout cams and turn all audio recorders off with a word and a thought makes it a lot more plausible for a small group to dig niches into the city of which only the naked eye can percieve.

Plus, it'd give Tito and Specimen 00 to link up, as Shajn was the one who threw him into the mists in the first place, and Hilber seems to have been part of the resistance at some part. I'm just throwing ideas out here.

Get the synthesized ALCOHOL-32s (Cabernet Sovingon, baby) ready for toasting, my dearest and closest friends, Infinity's Twilight is back on track in livejournal form!

Now that we've gotten this far, thanks are in order.

Thanks, JM, for helping me set this up, and sticking with us despite your misgivings about using Livejournal. The way you organized the posts coherently was a huge benefit. We're happy to have you, matey. :)

Dak, thanks for working on the template and making our new community just a slight pinch more awesome. Not to mention being here from the start, helping with ressurecting this gem of a story.

Polanna, thanks for the ridiculously long discourses on the discussion updates on this seeing_sevens community. You encourage me to write more of that stuff just to hear your opinion. :D

Gaggedcenobite, I don't remember a time when you weren't on MSN. You're online all the goddamn time. Thanks for being so dependable. You're fun to talk to. :-)

And last of all, Taoist, thanks for creating this to share with us back on Ninjai, two years ago. Look how close we are to re-exploring the adventure you put before us. Truly, ideas are a blessing.

---

This is the beginning, boys and girls. All we need now is Polanna's character intro, gaggedcenobite to make a damn character name (ha!), Dak to give us a Specimen 00 update, and uh... um... then we move forward! Or we could do that right now.

Er, yes.

Anyway, check out the community. http://www.livejournal.com/community/twilightofseven

I don't know about you, but I find LJ MUCH easier to navigate than Ninjai or Acrobat Reader put together. I'm really happy we moved it here.

As of 5:30 PM, PST, I shall be creating a community called endofinfinity ('cause Infinitystwilight was too big), and it shall be our IC community, filled to the brim with the flavour of awesome. I think that our character writings will be posted via community updates, like this one here - comments could be reserved for... hrm, questions? Edits? Inter-character dialogue? Er, we'll figure something out.

But yeah. If you'd like to object on reasonable grounds for this, the time to do it is noooow.

Anyway, if JM could comment and put down the list he ordered the character posts into, maybe we could get started right away? Also, how's Polanna doing with making her character story? I know she got a healthy portion of it done so far.

EDIT: Speaking of which, I was hoping I could get permission to get onecutekins here as a member? I know she expressed interest in checking us out and joining, and she's more than qualified for this kind of storyline. :)

EDIT EDIT: Taking a bit to finish the rest of Just_me's Dome 9 introduction. Will probably be delayed. For sure, it will be up tomorrow. Patience, dear friends. :)

I'm totally ready and pumped to start this thing. You know, as opposed to the apathetic kind of meh I was feelin' towards this when I made the community. But yeah, now we're all good to go, we can invite some more friends in later on I suppose. I'm just thinking, in the orginal Reincarnated RPG thread, the storyline was really more battle and fight scene based, which made it very easy to write (that is to say, sequentially by different authors), with a lot of elements of characterization that gave the action some depth.

IT and W3K always really seemed to be more story, plot oriented, so things can get confusing as to who writes what and so on. During W3K (or whatever had progressed during that period...) I had planned to have at least two, maybe more characters, them mainly being Mershael and Shanrar. I don't see why we have to limit ourselves to one character (or one viewpoint) to play out when we can progress the story by creating characters as we go, incorporating them into what we see as canon.

I'm also thinking that if we really get into it, or the community starts thriving due an unexpected and unlikely surge in popularity, there'll likely be no end to this particular universe. Honestly, I have no problem with that. As long as we all maintain interest and consistent entries, I'm sure we can create something really awesome here. So I'm thinking we use seeing_sevens as an OOC community, and mayhap create an infinitys_twilight community for story posts?

I dunno, it's 7 in the morning after a night of no sleep, so I'm kinda rambling.

What I'm basically saying is, let's get this party started, but perhaps in a different community?

I'd like to get the blood flowing here again, if I can, people. I think JustHe's working on the introduction, but is a bit hung up on the description of Dome 9 and whatnot? Is that postponed, or are you working on it piece by piece, mate? Please give us a status report so that we know where we are. In my opinion, I'd rather have an imperfect and incomplete introduction than no continuing story at all.

No offence to JustHe, but if we don't get this intro going, let's just use Nielthunn's as a starterpoint, okay? I don't want to wait around anymore. The intro can wait while we continue the bulk of our story and see how our characters eventually meet up. And for what purpose, yes.

Okay, let's hop to it! *whipsnap*

The Philosophies of Infinity's Twilight [Nov. 3rd, 2005|07:22 am]
Seven Lives of the Sun

spiritoftherain
[Tags|]

So, my introduction was more of a cliché Humans vs Machines kinda gig, as we agreed upon with the MSN discussion last night. There were three different philosophies, or factions at least, that we talked about... those that wish to preserve the world, those that wish to destroy it, and those that think that the universe will be reborn into something new. Is that how I remember it?

I like that kind of stance, actually. It makes it more about something to fight for, instead of just, "Oh, I don't like the machines so I try to blow them up." If we can make something grand about it, eg capitalizing it as the First Philosophy (dun dun dun!), that would be... interesting!

Anyway, I'd like to see how I can tweak the intro around so it's less cliché and more, well, suited to what we're trying to pull off here. May report back soon. :)

I was saying earlier on that I had wanted a hand in devising some of the introduction. The one that he wrote is pretty informative for the bulk of what we have for the story, but I was hankerin' to write a sort of rabble-rousing summary to draw in the masses. Anyway, I came up with this right now, just to see if our little group would buy into it.

I made some stuff up to make things interesting based on the premonitions we had so far, but I think I like how it turned out. Here it is, under the cut:

Power Source of the Machines? [Oct. 28th, 2005|07:43 pm]
Seven Lives of the Sun

spiritoftherain
[Tags|]

Taoist did one of his rare appearing tricks on MSN today, and I got to talk with him for a while. What concerned me most was what sort of power machines would be running on, seeing as this is, if anything, their main weakpoint that the forces of Machinekind could exploit.

Click here for the text log, cut for its sheer size. *scrollscrollscroll*Collapse )
In summary: The energy source of Machines is powered by some sort of quantum electricity, using units smaller than electrons, and are used by subverting stars into artificial blackholes for the use of Machine power. They've basically given no light or solar power to the Universe, which may be what's causing its death somehow. There appears to be no way in sight to destroy these black hole suns, without completely disrupting the planet system around it, which could cause some destructive mayhem for the truly apocalyptic in nature (assuming they ever acquire their own ship, considering that the Machines power space travel). Besides that, subverting the black holes may not even work at all, considering that the Machines themselves have a very long battery charge. The only weakness it seems to have, therefore, is the ever-loving power of magic. ("Null magic, specifically.")

What I'd be curious about is if there's another way to subvert the black holes without damaging the entire system around it, thus depriving Machines of precious, precious energy. Energy which is limited in value, seeing as there are so many suns you can suck up, so even if it's only a long-term negative it might still be useful for those attempting to oppose Machine-kind.

Another set of questions that wasn't made clear - how the energy is distributed. Is it powered locally? Are there some sort of cables, physical or otherwise, that link this energy to the planets, and can be severed as a result? Or are there cargo ships that physically ship energy from black hole to planet, farming the energy rather, that can be ambushed if organic rebels ever figure out how to take ships from the Machines?

If the energy was farmed or manufactured somehow, then that would make sense as they would only have to get stores of energy once in a while. But, as it were, that questioned hasn't been answered.

Is that plausible? Does that work for everyone, or are there any more questions that people might want to tack on?

Machines. Power source. >_> yes. Discussion please!

Discussion on the World of IT (The need for currency and the programming of machines) [Oct. 20th, 2005|05:07 pm]
Seven Lives of the Sun

spiritoftherain
[Tags|]

It seems like Taoist left us a lot of space to flesh out in Infinity's Twilight in general, so I thought I'd get us all talking about how this futuristic-like government would work.

First of all, I know Dragonninja tried adding currency into our game, but that's because he's Dragonninja. 'Nuff said. But would this dome civilisation actually use currency? (edit: apparently they do, we're just not sure what kind of form it takes. hmm!) And if so, does that mean humans have to work for a living, even still? Does it apply to sentient machines, who need neither food nor drink, or is the currency generally just applying for human use?

I did a lot of thinking while I was away for a few days, reflecting on how things might work, like the machines. How were they programmed at the beginning, and is their initial programming still reflected in the way they work now? Are they strictly servile in programming, catering to their human masters? Or has their been a glitch of some sort in their programming, where they view themselves as the superior lords of their once-masters, keeping them from extinction?

Before I knew that there was already currency in place, I came up with my own idea about how these things worked. Feel free to contradict my views, or expand on it if you wish.

My idea of these dome civilisations is that currency would have been abolished, simply because machines did all, or most of the work. Machines don't sustain themselves like humans do - if I'm thinking right, all they need is whatever power source they're running on right now. They could grow enough food and whatnot for the human beings, provide for all of them so that they wouldn't have to work for their money. After all, weren't machines designed in the first place to make the lives of everday human beings easier?

As for the motivations of OISers, they're basically human police that look after their own kind, right? A job that could easily be delegated to a few machines. One view of OISers is that they're simply a position given to humans as a voluntary option - a show of minor independance in a world where they have very little sway over a great many things.

Machines were built to work so that humans wouldn't have to. Currency implies that humans still have to work. In a world where mankind is dominated by machines, what purpose could human beings serve? Is there really a need for them to be working for money?

---

...

Currency. Discuss!

I've went through the IT thread and copided all the relevent posts in the order we're going to use. Dak, I cut off your char's first post when you start talking about Synthia and use that first, then switched to my first post and put your post's last two paragraphs at the end of mine and deleted your third to last. Then put in Bobby's first and second posts, then my and Dak's second posts, and pretty much went in order from there. Should probably get another post on Specimen 00 somewhere in between my and Bobby's posts as well as two from EAC's char, and see if we can't into some other people's chars in there. Referenced from Zec's comment:

Okay, I think I might understand what you mean by using tags, but still have to say my idea of posting an intro as the entry, then the actual story as comments below it would be a lot better in the sense that it would be a lot less of a hassle than making a new entry for every segment and using tags to keep track of them.

Does this idea work? Basically just shooting off an introductory post of location, characters, etc and commenting in it? That's what I felt was the initial idea when we started...

I'll probably be getting my null mage/dead girl duo (damn, I really should think up their names) into the warehouse to meet up with some "contacts" so maybe we can kickstart the action sequence with Synthia and Nielthunn there?

EDIT: Dak, have you decided whether or not to keep your old character now? Nothing wrong with being a God Mod IMO as long as you roleplay it well enough. :)

We need some more people up in here. Four people a properous RPG does not make. So, candidates for invitation, Ninjai or otherwise should be named now.

How is this process going to work?

I'm just wondering, which arc are we starting with? I assumed it'd be W3K, but it seems we're leaning towards IT.

I really have no problem with either, but just so I can start planning things out.

Well, we're here. Kudos to Anthony for starting up this community. :D

The first thing to do, I s'pose, is for Taoist to dig up the PDFs so we can get back to where we started... did I even make a character in IT? I know I had something vaguely planned, but I don't remember...

And I know what I was looking to create in W3K... hmmm, wonder if we could get Tio back in while we're at it. She's already got the LJ thing though she never uses it to update.

---

So anyway, yeah, I'm gonna be tinkering around with this site along with Ant, seeing as this is the first community I've helped run. Should be fairly easy-going, now that the hard part (getting damn LJ to cough up free accounts) is pretty well over with.

So ... yeah. Hiiii!
